Ocashi wall coverings now available online for North American designers

Ocashi, a new wallpaper brand from the mother-daughter duo behind the RisaBraire company, is now available online to interior design professionals in North America.

This is Ocashi’s Spring to Mind pattern in Seihakuji Blue, part of its Miyabi collection.

Ocashi, based in Kobe, Japan, is a made-to-order, high-style collection of wall coverings inspired by ancient Japanese chinoiserie designs with a modern artistry twist. Ocashi offers four distinctive patterns in two collections that can be custom-tailored to suit the needs of designers and their clients.

Combing historical archives for inspiration, designer Yasue Ishikawa and her daughter, Risa Ishikawa, a product designer, unearthed chinoiserie art from their native Japan and began to reinterpret the designs for a modern marketplace. Around the same time, the Ishikawas were seeking the proper products to launch in North America for professional designers. “In Japan, wallpaper is far more common than paint for our interiors,” Yasue said. “Our company’s artisans and wallpaper makers have spent decades creating beautiful wall coverings for our clients. We wanted to use those creative and technical capabilities to develop designs a global audience would enjoy.”

Aged Beauty in Antique Gold is part of the Wabi-Sabi collection.

Ocashi’s collection features patterns suitable for use as a single panel, a repeating pattern of panels, a full mural or a pattern in combination with coordinating solid wallpapers. All the Ocashi offerings can be customized by size, color, design, individual art elements and substrate including woven silk and traditional Japanese handmade washi paper.

Designers can place orders directly from the Ocashi site or discuss options with the Ishikawas. Orders typically ship within 5-10 business days. “We want our interior design partners to feel confident in their selections so they may order a complimentary sample set that includes all our initial patterns and substrates. That way, they can experience the papers firsthand,” Risa said. Designers pay only a shipping fee for the samples.

The wall coverings are available in several configurations and on different substrates.

The company’s the first collection, Wabi-Sabi (based on the beauty of simplicity) features Aged Beauty in Antique Gold and Hazy Moon in Mist Gray. A second collection, Miyabi is inspired by the spectacular garden scenery of the kimonos that the court ladies wore. It includes Vivid Symbiosis in Suo Red and Spring to Mind in Seihakuji Blue.

Ocashi wall coverings can be found online at OcashiDesigns.com and on Instagram and Facebook. Inquiries may also be directed to info@ocashidesigns.com.
