As fast as leaves fall from autumn trees, the announcements of colors of the year for 2023 keep coming. The latest are in keeping with others announced in recent weeks: hues that the paint companies and color houses say evoke a sense of comfort and hope.
This week, Behr revealed Blank Canvas as its pick for 2023, calling it a “a hopeful and welcoming warm white that offers limitless design and decor possibilities.”
The color inspires feelings of tranquility and renewal, making it ideal for living spaces.
“Blank Canvas is the answer to an increased consumer desire to be present, find peace of mind and embrace the future. This rich and transformative color makes a lasting design statement, while lending a unique versatility that clears the air and serves as a timeless foundation for an array of decor styles in any space,” the paint company says.
On its website, Behr shows Blank Canvas paired with other rich, classic neutrals, including its Vine Leaf, Vintage Pewter, Midnight Blue and Black Pepper.
“Blank Canvas effortlessly offers a clean and inviting blank slate that allows individuality and creativity to flow freely. This white easily harmonizes with a wide range of hues, including neutrals, earth tones and pastels for a charming and cozy appeal,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. “Blank Canvas also pairs beautifully with black for a dramatic impact, and with bright accents like green or cobalt blue to instantly lift your mood.”
Sherwin-Williams has chosen Redend Point — “a soft, soulful neutral” — as its color of the year.
“Redend Point was inspired by the idea of finding beauty beyond ourselves. It is a heartening hue that invites compassion and connection into any space,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for the paint company. “The color is a natural choice for those looking for a warm and joyful neutral in both interiors and exteriors.”
Redend Point is part of the Sherwin-Williams’ Nexus palette. The company recommends pairing it with neutrals such as Urbane Bronze, Pure White and Cool Beige or other tonal clays, including Hushed Auburn, Toile Red and Malted Milk.
“Redend Point’s subtle pink undertones make it easy to incorporate into any space. It delivers an enveloping warmth that instantly makes you feel at home,” Wadden says. “Build on its earthiness by utilizing the hue alongside natural-looking textiles and wood accents or create a desert oasis by layering terracotta shades and clay materials.”
