A look at the new outdoor line from Janus et Cie & Phillippe Starck

For their first partnership, Janus et Cie and award-winning designer and architect Philippe Starck have created Serengeti, a new outdoor dining and lounge collection.

Inspired by nature and the Tanzanian savanna for which it is named, Serengeti combines timeless elegance and refined natural elements, with pieces crafted for durability and longevity, according to outdoor furniture specialist, which has headquarters in West Hollywood, California.

“I live in the middle of nowhere — in the middle of the mud, of the sand, of the forest,” Starck says. “I dreamed of furniture that nature could love, accept, integrate — different, personal, original but timeless furniture that we could have found there abandoned by elegant people; furniture made with real wood, in the middle of the woods. But above all, which, like certain magical objects … transport you back to their times, to other places, to their dreams. This is why the Serengeti collection exists.”

The collection features clean lines, a comfortable upright seat pitch, and deep, sumptuous cushions. Frames are constructed of sanded teak with visible peg joinery, power-coated aluminum and sturdy canvas sling mesh.

Here’s an album of some of the new pieces:
