Japanese designer launches luxe wall covering brand

Japanese interior designer and businesswoman Yasue Ishikawa is bringing her new brand of luxury wall coverings to the North American design market this spring. Called Ocashi in reference to the delectable bites or sweet morsels found in Japan, the brand is a joint project between Ishikawa and her daughter, Risa Ishikawa, a product development specialist.

The mother-daughter team, best known for their RisaBraire brand of soft home accessories and interior design, found inspiration for the Ocashi wall coverings in Japanese chinoiserie designs. Through the new nature-inspired line, they want to explore the connection between traditional Japanese homes, art and artistry, updating those designs into more modern patterns with a color palette right for North America’s luxury home furnishings market.

“The goal for our new Ocashi brand is to bring modern and ancient Japanese aesthetics together into completely fresh wall coverings that tell timeless stories,” Ishikawa said. “The patterns are artfully constructed so that a single panel can be used as a feature or up to six panels can be grouped to complete a full wall mural.”

Interior designers can select which section or sections of a scene they want. In addition, they can customize the color, size, substrate material and pattern to suit their own projects.
